🇺🇦 Ukraine spends the largest share of its GDP on defense in the world
Ukraine’s military spending in 2025 increased by 20% to $84.1 billion, equivalent to roughly 40% of the country’s GDP. Defense now accounts for 63% of all Ukrainian government expenditures.
Russia’s military spending rose by 5.9% in 2025, reaching 7.5% of its GDP.
In absolute terms, the biggest defense budgets in 2025 belonged to the United States ($954 billion), China ($336 billion), and Russia ($190 billion).
