🇿🇦 Human remains believed to be those of 59-year-old businessman Gabriel Batista were recovered from inside a 500-kilogram Nile crocodile in South Africa’s Komati River.
Batista, a hotelier from Vanderbijlpark, was swept away on April 27 while attempting to drive his Ford Ranger across a flooded low-water bridge near Komatipoort.
After a week-long search using drones and helicopters, authorities found a crocodile that was unusually still and had a heavily distended belly.
A police marksman shot the animal from a helicopter.
During a field necropsy, investigators discovered human limbs (including two severed arms), a rib cage, and a ring believed to belong to Batista.
The crocodile’s stomach also contained six other pairs of shoes, raising fears it may have consumed other missing persons.
