"If you look at it from Putin’s perspective, this operation has been a strategic failure on so many levels.
First, he wanted to take over Ukraine, but instead, Ukraine has become more European and firmly transatlantic.
Second, he wanted to prevent NATO from expanding, yet he ended up pushing Finland and Sweden into the alliance.
And third, he wanted to project Russian global power. But look at Russia’s influence now in Cuba, Venezuela, Syria, or Iran. It’s nowhere to be seen."
