The Islamic regime in Iran has temporarily released Nobel Peace Prize laureate and human rights activist Narges Mohammadi from prison due to a sharp deterioration in her health. Mohammadi was freed on bail and transferred to Tehran for medical treatment. Her lawyer stated that she is currently in a very weakened condition and has lost nearly 20 kilograms. It was previously reported that the activist suffered two heart attacks while in prison and was hospitalized in Zanjan, where she was serving her sentence. Narges Mohammadi is well known for her criticism of the death penalty, compulsory hijab, and systemic oppression of women in Iran. In 2023, she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for “her fight against the oppression of women in Iran and her struggle to promote human rights and freedom for all.” Since she was imprisoned at the time, her children accepted the award on her behalf. Over the years, Mohammadi has been arrested 13 times, and the total length of sentences handed down to her exceeds 30 years in prison.
