🇨🇴 Russian-born mayor of the Colombian city of Tunja dismissed over corruption charges Colombia’s Council of State has upheld the decision to annul the election of Tunja’s mayor. The position was won in 2023 by Mikhail Krasnov, a native of Saratov, Russia. A criminal corruption case has been opened against the former mayor and three members of his administration. The defendants are accused of usurping public functions and abuse of office. Krasnov moved to Colombia in 2008 as an exchange student. Before his election, the Russian had been working as an economics professor at a local university. Among locals, the mayor was affectionately known as “El Ruso” (“The Russian”) and “El Profesor” (“The Professor”).
