The death on my own terms, based on my rules.” Marek Edelman Edelman was the last surviving leader of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. He then fought in the general Warsaw uprising of 1944, attempting to liberate the city from the Nazis. After the war, he remained in Poland. He not only became a noted cardiologist but became an activist in the Polish anti-communist underground movement - Solidarność.
