With 93% of the votes counted, the right-wing candidate Rafael López Aliaga is closing the gap with the left-wing candidate Roberto Sánchez in the battle for second place in the first round of the Peruvian presidential election.
López Aliaga is now just 7000 votes behind Sánchez and most of the outstanding votes are from López Aliaga strongholds, making it likely that it will be he who advances to the run-off.
