The world’s largest iceberg, A23a, has almost completely disintegrated According to the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute, the iceberg has lost about 99% of its area: from roughly 1,300 sq. km in January to less than 50 sq. km today. It is continuing to drift and rapidly break into smaller fragments. The iceberg originally calved from the Filchner Ice Shelf in 1986, when it measured about 4,170 sq. km.
