The Council of the European Union formally adopted a decision to terminate the partial suspension of the 1977 EU-Syria Cooperation Agreement, restoring the pact in full.
The move reinstates trade benefits, including the removal of quantitative restrictions on Syrian imports such as oil, petroleum products, gold, and precious metals, which were targeted by the 2011 suspension.
The European Council stated that the conditions justifying the original suspension are "no longer present" and described the move as a "clear political signal" of commitment to Syria’s transition and economic recovery.
