There is a risk of a major hantavirus outbreak
Dozens of potentially infected passengers from the cruise ship Hondius had already disembarked and scattered around the world before the deadly outbreak was discovered on board.
Health authorities across four continents are now racing to track and monitor passengers who left the hantavirus-stricken ship before the outbreak was detected.
They are also trying to locate others who may have come into contact with them.
The WHO has only managed to locate some of these passengers more than two weeks after they disembarked. In that time, they could have interacted with thousands of people.
The map shows the countries where passengers from the affected cruise ship traveled before the deadly hantavirus outbreak was discovered.
