The Global Sumud Flotilla has announced the death of Teresa Regina de Avila e Silva, the 63-year-old mother of detained Brazilian activist Thiago Avila.
She died on May 5, while her son remained in Israeli custody. In a statement, the flotilla said Israeli forces intercepted 22 of its vessels in international waters near Crete, Greece, detaining 175 civilians from 21 boats. And the detained activists, including Avila, have been subjected to physical and verbal violence
