Israeli Chief of Staff, Eyal Zamir has approved the return to duty of soldiers accused of sexually abusing a Palestinian detainee at the Sde Teiman military base in southern Israel, Haaretz reported.
The paper said members of Unit 100 were allowed to resume reserve service after charges against five soldiers were dropped in March, citing evidentiary challenges, according to military defence counsel Itai Ofir.
The case relates to a July 2024 incident in which a detainee from Gaza was tortured and sexually assaulted, suffering serious injuries.
The decision has drawn criticism, particularly as it comes before the army completes its command investigation
