A Palestinian family’s efforts to bury 80-year-old Hussein Asasa in a cemetery near their home in the northern occupied West Bank were disrupted by illegal Israeli settlers. After the funeral, armed men from the nearby settlement of Sa-Nur - protected by the Israeli army - arrived and ordered them to exhume the body, claiming the land belonged to the settlement. Illegal Israeli settlers reportedly threatened to dig up the grave themselves with a bulldozer if Palestinians did not relocate the body. Asasa said they took his father’s remains to a nearby cemetery in Al-Funduqumiya. The sequence of events left him confused about what people in the village should do to mourn those who die in the future. “Are we going to go around the neighboring villages asking for a place to bury them?” he asked
