Nyawar Biel broke the cycle of malnutrition for her three-year-old son, Wictour, in South Sudan. Displaced from their home by climate-driven floods, Wictour had grown quite weak last year. His mother took him to a UNICEF-supported nutrition programme, where he was treated for severe acute malnutrition and is now recovering. Millions of children in South Sudan are suffering from acute malnutrition, with nearly 700,000 children in danger of its deadliest form. Deepening hunger in South Sudan is pushing 7.8 million people into high levels of acute food insecurity. The crisis is driven by escalating conflict, mass displacement, economic decline, climate shocks and lack of access to healthcare, among other factors. Parties to the conflict must ensure safe, rapid and unfettered humanitarian access to all affected areas. Learn more about the hunger crisis in Sudan: www.unicef.org/press-releases/hunger-inten...
