Reports that hundreds of Rohingya & Bangladeshis are missing after their boat capsized is deeply distressing – @volker_turk. This underscores the desperate plight #Rohingya face in #Rakhine State, as well as in camps in #Bangladesh.
It is detestable that the most vulnerable, whether seeking protection or economic opportunities, are being preyed upon by traffickers & packed aboard horrific, unseaworthy deathtraps of vessels.
There is only way to end these deadly journeys: there needs to be an end to the violence by all parties in Rakhine State, & recognition & protection of Rohingya in #Myanmar.
