“The Devil Wears Prada” was an aughts phenomenon adapted from Lauren Weisberger’s best-selling 2003 novel, which drew on her experience as an assistant to Anna Wintour, then the editor-in-chief of Vogue, to create the monster of all bosses in Miranda Priestly. While the book was a takedown, the film adaptation turned Miranda (Meryl Streep) into a sharp-tongued icon who foiled the protagonist, an optimistic young journalist named Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway), quite nicely. Now, 20 years later, the duo has reunited amid a flailing news industry and budget cuts that dial down the magazine's sheen. “The script has a shrewd manner, more endearing than exasperating, of repackaging the same elements under heightened circumstances,” Justin Chang writes.
