Ahead of this evening’s visit to the White House, I laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and visited the graves of four Dutch marines at Arlington National Cemetery. More than 400,000 American veterans and their families are buried at this impressive military cemetery. They include soldiers who gave their lives to liberate Europe during the Second World War. The grave of George C. Marshall is also here. He was the man behind the Marshall Plan, the recovery programme that supported Europe’s reconstruction after the war. This is just one example of how crucial our ties with the US are for our prosperity and security. For both the Netherlands and Europe. 🇳🇱🇺🇸
