Apparently, the brain isn’t always “taking out the trash”, sometimes it’s passing it on.
Researchers from Israel's @TechnionLive, Prof. Michael Glickman and postdoctoral researcher Dr. Ajay Wagh, found that instead of breaking down toxic proteins, brain cells sometimes push them out into surrounding tissue, where they can be absorbed by neighboring cells and accelerate diseases.
This discovery could lead to earlier diagnosis and new, more targeted treatments for Alzheimer’s.
