A few years ago, scientists in Israel successfully revived an extinct Judean date tree from a 2,000-year-old seed discovered at Masada—bringing back a biblical variety that had been extinct for more than a thousand years.
Later, another ancient seed from the Qumran Caves was grown into a female tree, and together the two produced fruit for the first time in millennia.
For the first time in thousands of years, we are able to eat Judean dates again.
