66 years ago today, on May 11, 1960, the Mossad carried out one of the most famous intelligence operations in history.
Adolf Eichmann - one of the chief architects of the Holocaust responsible for helping orchestrate the deportation of millions of Jews to extermination camps - had spent years hiding in Argentina under a false identity after World War II.
After tracking him down, Mossad agents captured Eichmann and secretly transported him to Israel to stand trial in Jerusalem.
In 1962, he was found guilty of crimes against humanity, war crimes, and crimes against the Jewish people, before being executed - the only civil execution ever carried out in Israel.
