It my honour to meet today with His Excellency, Mr Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Kazakhstan.
I congratulated President Tokayev on Kazakhstan’s leadership in staging the Regional Ecological Summit, which brought all regional countries and partners, including @WHO, to Astana to agree ways forward to protect and promote our natural environments, ensure sustainable development and protect the health of millions of people.
I committed @WHO’s ongoing support to address environmental health threats in Kazakhstan and across the Central Asian region, including collaboration with neighbors to address the manmade damage to the Aral and Caspian seas.
I also commended the President on Kazakhstan’s investment in advancing public health, including universal health coverage and expanding its primary health care services.
We also discussed opportunities for joint research in climate and health, digital transformation, and use of artificial intelligence in the healthcare system.
In addition, I was pleased to announce that Kazakhstan’s national regulatory system for medicines and medical devices had successfully achieved WHO’s gold standard Maturity Level 3. This is a recognition of the country’s commitment to #HealthForAll Kazakhs through access and use of safe and effective medical products.
