Thanks to vaccines, deaths from measles in Africa have been cut in half in just one generation. Since 2000, vaccination has saved nearly 20 million lives by preventing deaths related to measles. In 2025, Cabo Verde, Mauritius and Seychelles became the first sub-Saharan African countries to achieve measles and rubella elimination status. Investing in immunization across Africa will ensure the continent achieves the Immunization Agenda 2030 coverage target.
